INTRODUCTION

Pediatric Surgery Unit is a very active unit in King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital. The Unit has 16 beds allocated for all Pediatric subspecialties (Pediatric general surgery, Urology, Orthopedic, Ophthalmology, Cardiac, Dental, Plastic and ENT).Occupancy rate is always around 100%. The first the waiting list could be from 8 to 10 months for common Pediatric Surgery cases such as hernia, circumcision, orchidopexy ET. There is also a big NICU unit available of 70 beds covering more the 7000 deliveries per year, with advanced antenatal units. Also we have 5 beds as PICU and 3 Pediatric Cardiac ICU.

At present there are two consultants, three registrars and one resident. The Hospital administration, staffing and the modern and expensive equipments contribute to the vast development in minimal invasive Neonatal and Pediatric surgeries.

The Department is accredited for 1 year training for Saudi Board Trainees by Saudi Commission of Health Specialties.

The Pediatric Surgery Unit has a high record, of about 10% for all theater activities, about 30% for the general surgery elective cases and about 50% for the emergency cases.

Our clinics cover more than 4500 patients per year in an average of 3 clinics per week.

As pediatric surgery is a specialty by its own, in this hospital the unit covers: General Pediatric surgery, Neonatal, Thoracic, Pediatric urology & burns.
