Neonatology Division of the Pediatric Department

King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital of Jeddah, KSA

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital (KFAFH) of Jeddah, KSA is a 53 bed unit. It is highly equipped to receive admissions amongst an annual 7000 deliveries at KFAFH-Jeddah. The NICU receives an average annual admission of 1200 babies in addition to outborn transfers from other hospitals. It is a three-level NICU that conforms to the guidelines of the AAP for the Levels of Neonatal care: Levels: I, II, IIIA-B-C. Level IIID is part of the post-cardiac surgery care and ECMO is part of the CCU at KFAFH-Jeddah.

The Neonatology Division hosts two educational programs for pediatric residents and neonatology fellows that are both accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. Firstly, the KFAFH-Jeddah, has a 4-year Pediatric Residency Program, the residents rotate each residency year as part of their curriculum among the various levels of the Neonatology care.

Secondly, early 2009, the Neonatology Division had launched its Neonatal Fellowship Program, a 2-year Training Program aiming at graduating excellence level and state of art Neonatologists in the KSA.

The department of Pediatric and the Neonatal division have the Full Accreditation by the American Academy of Continuing Medical Education.
